Calling the Guru From Afar
A Prayer to Pierce the Heart with Devotion

བླ་མ་རྒྱང་འབོད་ཀུན་ལ་གྲགས་ཆེའང༌། བྱིན་རླབས་བསྐུལ་བའི་གནད་སྐྱོ་ཤས་ངེས་འབྱུང་གིས་བསྐུལ་བའི་མོས་གུས་ཁ་ཙམ་ཚིག་ཙམ་མ་ཡིན་པར་སྙིང་གི་དཀྱིལ། རུས་པའི་གཏིང་ནས་བསྐྱེད། བླ་མ་ལས་ལྷག་པའི་སངས་རྒྱས་གཞན་ན་མེད་པར་ཐག་ཆོད་པའི་ངེས་ཤེས་དང་ལྡན་པས་དབྱངས་རྟ་སྙན་པོས། །
The practice of calling the guru from afar is well known to everyone, but the key to invoking blessings is to arouse a devotion that is not mere lip service but inspired by disenchantment and renunciation. It should be felt in the depths of the heart, the very marrow of one’s bones. So, chant this to a beautiful melody, in the certain conviction that there is no buddha greater than the guru.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
lama khyeno, lama khyeno
Guru, watch over me. Guru, watch over me.
དྲིན་ཅན་རྩ་བའི་བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
drinchen tsawé lama khyeno
Kind root guru, watch over me!
དུས་གསུམ་སངས་རྒྱས་ཀྱི་ངོ་བོ། །
düsum sangyé kyi ngowo
Essence of the buddhas of the three times;
ལུང་རྟོགས་དམ་ཆོས་ཀྱི་འབྱུང་གནས། །
lungtok damchö kyi jungné
Source of the sacred Dharma’s scripture and realization;
འཕགས་ཚོགས་དགེ་འདུན་གྱི་མངའ་བདག །
pak tsok gendün kyi ngadak
Lord of the Sangha’s noble assembly:
རྩ་བའི་བླ་མ་ཁྱེད་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
tsawé lama khyé khyeno
Root guru, watch over me.
བྱིན་རླབས་ཐུགས་རྗེ་ཡི་གཏེར་ཆེན། །
jin lap tukjé yi terchen
Great treasure of compassionate blessings,
དངོས་གྲུབ་རྣམ་གཉིས་ཀྱི་འབྱུང་གནས། །
ngödrup nam nyi kyi jungné
source of the two types of siddhi,
ཕྲིན་ལས་ཅི་འདོད་ཀུན་སྩོལ་མཛད། །
trinlé chi dö kün tsöl dzé
accomplisher of all the activities we might wish for:
རྩ་བའི་བླ་མ་ཁྱེད་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
tsawé lama khyé khyeno
root guru, watch over me.
བླ་མ་འོད་དཔག་མེད་པ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
lama öpak mepa khyeno
Guru Amitābha, watch over me:
སྤྲོས་བྲལ་ཆོས་སྐུའི་ཀློང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
trö dral chökü long né zik shik
look upon me from the field of dharmakāya’s simplicity.
བདག་སོགས་ལས་ངན་འཁོར་བར་འཁྱམས་རྣམས། །
dak sok lé ngen khorwar khyam nam
Lead me and others with negative karma who wander through samsara
བདེ་ཆེན་དག་པའི་ཞིང་དུ་དྲོངས་མཛོད། །
dechen dakpé zhing du drong dzö
to the pure land of Great Bliss.
བླ་མ་སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་དབང་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
lama chenrezig wang khyeno
Guru Avalokiteśvara, watch over me:
འོད་གསལ་ལོངས་སྐུའི་ཀློང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
ösel long kü long né zik shik
look upon me from the field of sambhogakāya’s luminosity.
རིགས་དྲུག་སྡུག་བསྔལ་རྩད་ནས་ཞི་ཞིང༌། །
rig druk dukngal tsené zhi zhing
Thoroughly pacify the suffering of the six classes
ཁམས་གསུམ་འཁོར་བ་དོང་ནས་སྤྲུགས་མཛོད། །
kham sum khorwa dong né druk dzö
and empty samsara’s three realms from their very depths.
བླ་མ་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
lama pema jung né khyeno
Guru Padmasambhava, watch over me:
རྔ་ཡབ་པདྨ་འོད་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
ngayap pemo ö né zik shik
look upon me from Cāmara’s Lotus Light.
སྙིགས་དུས་སྐྱབས་མེད་བོད་འབངས་ཉམ་ཐག །
nyik dü kyab mé bö bang nyam tak
Swiftly protect us with your compassion—
ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་བ་ཉིད་དུ་སྐྱོབས་མཛོད། །
tukjé nyurwa nyidu kyop dzö
we, the helpless, miserable beings of this dark age.
བླ་མ་ཡེ་ཤེས་མཚོ་རྒྱལ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
lama yeshé tsogyal khyeno
Guru Yeshé Tsogyal, watch over me:
མཁའ་སྤྱོད་བདེ་ཆེན་གྲོང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
khachö dechen drong né zik shik
look upon me from the celestial city of great bliss.
སྡིག་ལྡན་བདག་སོགས་སྲིད་པའི་མཚོ་ལས། །
dikden dak sok sipé tsolé
Deliver us harm-doers from samsara’s ocean
ཐར་པའི་གྲོང་ཁྱེར་ཆེན་པོར་སྒྲོལ་མཛོད། །
tarpé drongkhyer chenpor dröl dzö
to the magnificent citadel of liberation.
བཀའ་གཏེར་བརྒྱུད་པའི་བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
kater gyüpé lama khyeno
Gurus of the kama and terma lineages, watch over me:
ཟུང་འཇུག་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཀློང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
zungjuk yeshé long né zik shik
look upon me from the field of unified wisdom.
བདག་རྒྱུད་འཁྲུལ་པའི་མུན་ཁང་བརྟོལ་ནས། །
dak gyü trül pé mün khang töl né
Break through the dark dungeon of my deluded mind,
རྟོགས་པའི་ཉི་མ་ཤར་བར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
tok pé nyima shar war dzö chik
and cause the sun of realization to dawn.
ཀུན་མཁྱེན་དྲི་མེད་འོད་ཟེར་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
künkhyen drimé özer khyeno
Omniscient Drimé Özer, watch over me:
ལྷུན་གྲུབ་འོད་ལྔའི་ཀློང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
lhündrup ö ngé long né zik shik
look upon me from the field of the spontaneous five lights.
ཀ་དག་དགོངས་པའི་རྩལ་ཆེན་རྫོགས་ནས། །
kadak gongpé tsal chen dzok né
Help me achieve the full strength of realizing original purity,
སྣང་བཞི་མཐའ་རུ་ཕྱིན་པར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
nang zhi taru chinpar dzö chik
and thereby bring the four visions to completion.
མཉམ་མེད་ཇོ་བོ་ཡབ་སྲས་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
nyamé jowo yap sé khyeno
Peerless father Lord Atiśa and your heirs, watch over me:
དགའ་ལྡན་ལྷ་བརྒྱའི་དབུས་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
gaden lha gyé ü né zik shik
look upon me from Tuṣita, amidst its hundred deities.
སྟོང་ཉིད་སྙིང་རྗེའི་སྙིང་པོ་ཅན་གྱི། །
tongnyi nyingjé nyingpo chen gyi
Let emptiness suffused with compassion—
བྱང་སེམས་རྒྱུད་ལ་སྐྱེ་བར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
jangsem gyüla kyewar dzö chik
bodhicitta—be born within my mind.
གྲུབ་མཆོག་མར་མི་དྭགས་གསུམ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
drup chok mar mi dak sum khyeno
Three supreme siddhas, Marpa, Mila, and Gampopa, watch over me:
བདེ་ཆེན་རྡོ་རྗེའི་དབྱིངས་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
dechen dorjé ying né zik shik
look upon me from the vajra space of great bliss.
བདེ་སྟོང་ཕྱག་ཆེན་མཆོག་དངོས་གྲུབ་ཅིང༌། །
detong chakchen chok ngödrup ching
Help me attain bliss-emptiness, the supreme siddhi of Mahāmudrā,
ཆོས་སྐུ་སྙིང་དབུས་སད་པར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
chöku nying ü separ dzö chik
and awaken dharmakāya in the depths of my heart.
འཇིག་རྟེན་དབང་ཕྱུག་ཀརྨ་པ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
jikten wangchuk karmapa khyeno
Karmapa, mighty lord of the world, watch over me:
མཁའ་ཁྱབ་འགྲོ་འདུལ་དབྱིངས་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
khakhyab drodül ying né zik shik
look upon me from the space in which infinite beings are tamed.
ཆོས་ཀུན་བདེན་མེད་སྒྱུ་མར་རྟོགས་ནས། །
chö kün denmé gyumar tok né
Help me realize how all things are unreal and illusory,
སྣང་སེམས་སྐུ་གསུམ་འཆར་བར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
nang sem kusum charwar dzö chik
and let mind and appearance arise as the three kāyas.
བཀའ་བརྒྱུད་ཆེ་བཞི་ཆུང་བརྒྱད་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
kagyü che zhi chung gyé khyeno
Kagyü masters of the four major and eight minor lineages, watch over me:
རང་སྣང་དག་པའི་ཞིང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིང༌། །
rang nang dak pé zhing né zik shik
look upon me from the realm of pure self-appearances.
གནས་སྐབས་བཞི་ཡི་འཁྲུལ་པ་སངས་ནས། །
né kab zhi yi trülpa sang né
Help me clear away the delusion of the four states,
ཉམས་རྟོགས་མཐའ་རུ་ཕྱིན་པར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
nyam tok taru chinpar dzö chik
and bring experience and realization to perfection.
རྗེ་བཙུན་གོང་མ་རྣམ་ལྔ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
jetsün gongma nam nga khyeno
Five Sakya forefathers,2 watch over me:
འཁོར་འདས་དབྱེར་མེད་ཀློང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
khor dé yermé long né zik shik
Look upon me from the field of samsara and nirvana’s inseparability.
རྣམ་དག་ལྟ་སྒོམ་སྤྱོད་གསུམ་འབྲེལ་ནས། །
namdak tagom chö sum drelné
Help me combine pure view, meditation, and conduct,
གསང་བའི་ལམ་མཆོག་བགྲོད་པར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
sangwé lam chok dröpar dzö chik
and thus traverse the supreme secret path.
མཉམ་མེད་ཤངས་པ་བཀའ་བརྒྱུད་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
nyamé shangpa kagyü khyeno
Peerless Shangpa Kagyü masters, watch over me:
རྣམ་དག་སངས་རྒྱས་ཞིང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
namdak sangyé zhing né zik shik
look upon me from the realm of pure awakening.
ཐབས་གྲོལ་ཉམས་ལེན་ཚུལ་བཞིན་འབྱོངས་ནས། །
tapdröl nyamlen tsül zhin jong né
Help me train well in means and liberation,
མི་སློབ་ཟུང་འཇུག་བརྙེས་པར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
milop zungjuk nyepar dzö chik
and thereby attain the unity of no-more-learning.
གྲུབ་ཆེན་ཐང་སྟོང་རྒྱལ་པོ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
drupchen tangtong gyalpo khyeno
Great siddha Tangtong Gyalpo, watch over me:
རྩོལ་མེད་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་ཀློང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
tsöl mé tukjé long né zik shik
look upon me from the field of effortless compassion.
བདེན་མེད་རྟོགས་པའི་བརྟུལ་ཞུགས་གྲུབ་ནས། །
den mé tokpé tülzhuk drupné
Help me achieve the discipline of realizing unreality,
རླུང་སེམས་རང་དབང་འདུ་བར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
lung sem rangwang duwar dzö chik
and thereby gain mastery over prāṇa and mind.
ཕ་གཅིག་དམ་པ་སངས་རྒྱས་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
pa chik dampa sangyé khyeno
Padampa Sangyé, sole father, watch over me:
ལས་རབ་གྲུབ་པའི་དབྱིངས་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
lerap drupé ying né zik shik
look upon me from the space of supreme action.
བརྒྱུད་པའི་བྱིན་རླབས་སྙིང་ལ་ཞུགས་ནས། །
gyüpe jinlap nying la zhuk né
Let the blessings of the lineage seep into my heart
རྟེན་འབྲེལ་ཕྱོགས་མེད་འཆར་བར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
tendrel chokmé charwar dzö chik
and auspicious connections arise without limit.
མ་གཅིག་ལབ་ཀྱི་སྒྲོན་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
machik lap kyi drönma khyeno
Machik Labdrön, sole mother, watch over me:
ཤེས་རབ་ཕར་ཕྱིན་ཀློང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
sherap parchin long né zik shik
look upon me from the field of the perfection of wisdom.
བདག་འཛིན་སྙེམས་བྱེད་རྩད་ནས་ཆོད་ཅིང༌། །
dakdzin nyemjé tsé né chöching
Help me annihilate this maddening ego-clinging
བདག་མེད་སྤྲོས་བྲལ་བདེན་མཐོང་མཛོད་ཅིག །
dakmé trödral dentong dzö chik
and see the truth of selflessness beyond constructs.
ཀུན་མཁྱེན་དོལ་པོ་སངས་རྒྱས་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
kün khyen dölpo sangyé khyeno
Omniscient Dolpo Sangyé, watch over me:
རྣམ་ཀུན་མཆོག་ལྡན་དབྱིངས་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
nam kün chok den ying né zik shik
look upon me from the space supreme in all aspects.
འཕོ་བའི་དབུགས་རྣམས་དབུ་མར་འགགས་ནས། །
powé uk nam umar gakné
Help me still breath’s movement in the central channel,
འཕོ་བྲལ་རྡོ་རྗེའི་སྐུ་ཐོབ་མཛོད་ཅིག །
po dral dorjé ku top dzö chik
and thus attain the immutable vajra-kāya.
རྗེ་བཙུན་ཏཱ་ར་ནཱ་ཐ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
jetsün taranata khyeno
Venerable Tāranātha, watch over me:
རྣམ་གསུམ་ཕོ་ཉའི་དབྱིངས་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
nam sum ponyé ying né zik shik
look upon me from the space of the three emissaries.3
རྡོ་རྗེའི་གསང་ལམ་གེགས་མེད་བགྲོད་ནས། །
dorjé sanglam gekmé drö né
Help me traverse the secret vajra path unhindered,
འཇའ་ལུས་མཁའ་སྤྱོད་འགྲུབ་པར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
jalü khachö drupar dzö chik
and thus accomplish the celestial rainbow body.
བླ་མ་རྒྱང་འབོད་མོས་གུས་སྙིང་གི་གཟེར་འདེབས་ཀྱི་ཁ་སྐོང་མཆོག་གླིང་གསོས་འདེབས་ནི།

གཏེར་ཆེན་མཆོག་གྱུར་གླིང་པ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །

Terchen Chokgyur Lingpa, great treasure revealer, watch over me:
ཀུན་ཁྱབ་ཆོས་སྐུའི་ཀློང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
kün khyab chökü long né zik shik
look upon me from the field of all-pervasive dharmakāya.
གཉིས་རྟོག་སྐྱེ་མེད་ངང་ལ་ཐིམ་ནས། །
nyitok kyemé ngang la tim né
Let dualistic concepts dissolve into the birthless state,
རང་རིག་རང་ས་ཟིན་པར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
rang rik rang sa zinpar dzö chik
so I may hold my ground in natural awareness.4
ཨོ་རྒྱན་བདེ་ཆེན་གླིང་པ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
orgyen dechen lingpa khyeno
Orgyen Dechen Lingpa, watch over me:
རང་གསལ་ལོངས་སྐུའི་དབྱིངས་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
rang sal longkü ying né zik shik
look upon me from the space of self-luminous sambhogakāya.
སྐུ་ལྔ་ཡེ་ཤེས་ལྷུན་གྲུབ་ཆེན་པོ། །
ku nga yeshé lhündrup chenpo
Let the spontaneous wisdom of the five kāyas manifest
སྤངས་ཐོབ་མེད་པར་མངོན་གྱུར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
pangtop mepar ngöngyur dzö chik
free from rejection and attainment.
ཁྱབ་གདལ་ཞིག་པོ་གླིང་པ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
khyapdal zhikpo lingpa khyeno
All-pervasive Zhikpo Lingpa, watch over me:
འགྲོ་འདུལ་ཐུགས་རྗེའི་ངང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
drodrül tukjé ngang né zik shik
look upon me from the state of compassion that tames beings.
སེམས་ཀྱི་རིན་ཆེན་རང་ལ་རྙེད་དེ། །
sem kyi rinchen rang la nyeté
Help me discover the jewel of mind within myself,
འབྲས་བུ་གཞི་ལ་རྫོགས་པར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
drebu zhila dzok par dzö chik
the fruition completely present within the ground.
སེམས་དཔའ་པདྨའི་མྱུ་གུ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
sempa pemé nyugu khyeno
Bodhisattva Lotus Essence, watch over me:
སྒྱུ་འཕྲུལ་དྲྭ་བའི་ཀློང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
gyutrül drawé long né zik shik
look upon me from the field of the magical net.
ཡེ་ཤེས་རྒྱལ་པོ་སྐུ་བཞིའི་དབང་ཕྱུག །
yeshé gyalwé ku zhi wangchuk
Make me utterly inseparable from this supreme
མཆོག་དང་དབྱེར་མེད་ཉིད་དུ་མཛོད་ཅིག །
chok dang yermé nyitu dzö chik
king of wisdom, the lord of the four kāyas.
ཨོ་རྒྱན་མཆོག་གྱུར་གླིང་པའི་དབོན་བླ་མ་བསམ་གཏན་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་བཞེད་པ་བཞིན་ཀརྨ་པའི་མཚན་འཛིན་བཅོ་ལྔ་པས་སུག་ལས་སོ། །
These verses invoking Orgyen Chokgyur Lingpa were composed by the 15th Karmapa upon the request of Lama Samten Gyatso.
འཇམ་དབྱངས་མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་དབང་པོ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
jamyang khyentsé wangpo khyeno
Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, watch over me:5
མཁྱེན་གཉིས་ཡེ་ཤེས་དབྱིངས་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
khyen nyi yeshé ying né zik shik
look upon me from the space of twofold wisdom.
མི་ཤེས་བློ་ཡི་མུན་པ་སངས་ནས། །
mi shé loyi münpa sang né
Dispel the mental darkness of unknowing,
མཁྱེན་རབ་སྣང་བ་རྒྱས་པར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
khyenrap nangwa gyepar dzö chik
and make the light of supreme knowledge shine.
འོད་གསལ་སྤྲུལ་པའི་རྡོ་རྗེ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
ösal trülpé dorjé khyeno
Ösal Trülpé Dorjé, watch over me:
འཇའ་ཟེར་འོད་ལྔའི་ཀློང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
jazer ö ngé long né zik shik
look upon me from the field of five-colored rainbow light.
ཐིག་རླུང་སེམས་ཀྱི་དྲི་མ་དག་ནས། །
tik lung sem kyi drima dak né
Help me cleanse all stains of bindu, prāṇa, and mind,
གཞོན་ནུ་བུམ་སྐུར་བྱང་ཆུབ་མཛོད་ཅིག །
zhönu bumkur jangchup dzö chik
and thus awaken as the youthful vase body.
པདྨ་མདོ་སྔགས་གླིང་པ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
pema do ngak lingpa khyeno
Pema Do-Ngak Lingpa, watch over me:
བདེ་སྟོང་འགྱུར་མེད་ཀློང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
detong gyurmé long né zik shik
look upon me from the field of unchanging empty bliss.
རྒྱལ་དང་རྒྱལ་སྲས་དགོངས་པ་མཐའ་དག །
gyal dang gyalsé gongpa tadak
Enable me to fulfill completely
བདག་གིས་ཡོངས་སུ་སྐོང་ནུས་མཛོད་ཅིག །
dak gi yong su kong nü dzö chik
all the intentions of the victors and their heirs.
ངག་དབང་ཡོན་ཏན་རྒྱ་མཚོ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
ngawang yönten gyamtso khyeno
Ngawang Yönten Gyatso, watch over me:6
དབྱིངས་ཡེ་ཟུང་འཇུག་ཀློང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
ying yé zungjuk long né zik shik
look upon me from the field of wisdom-space unity.
སྣང་བའི་བདེན་འཛིན་ཧྲུལ་གྱིས་ཞིག་ནས། །
nangwé dendzin hrül gyi zhik né
Help me to break through the reifying of appearance,
གང་བྱུང་ལམ་དུ་འཁྱེར་ནུས་མཛོད་ཅིག །
gang jung lam du khyer nü dzö chik
and thus bring whatever occurs onto the path.
རྒྱལ་སྲས་བློ་གྲོས་མཐའ་ཡས་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
gyalsé lodrö tayé khyeno
Lodrö Tayé, son of the victors, watch over me:
བྱམས་དང་སྙིང་རྗེའི་ངང་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
jam dang nyingjé ngang né zik shik
look upon me from the state of love and compassion.
འགྲོ་ཀུན་དྲིན་ཅན་ཕ་མར་ཤེས་ནས། །
dro kün drinchen pama shené
Help me to recognize all beings as my kind parents
གཞན་ཕན་སྙིང་ནས་སྒྲུབ་ནུས་མཛོད་ཅིག །
zhenpen nying né drup nü dzö chik
and wholeheartedly accomplish the welfare of others.
པདྨ་གར་གྱི་དབང་ཕྱུག་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
pema gargyi wangchuk khyeno
Pema Gargyi Wangchuk, watch over me:
བདེ་ཆེན་འོད་གསལ་དབྱིངས་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
dechen ösel ying né zik shik
look upon me from the space of luminous great bliss.
དུག་ལྔ་ཡེ་ཤེས་ལྔ་རུ་གྲོལ་ནས། །
duk nga yeshé ngaru dröl né
Let the five poisons be liberated as the five wisdoms,
སྤང་ཐོབ་གཉིས་འཛིན་ཞིག་པར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
pang top nyidzin zhikpar dzö chik
so I may break through the duality of riddance and gain.
བསྟན་གཉིས་གཡུང་དྲུང་གླིང་པ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
tenyi yungdrung lingpa khyeno
Tenyi Yungdrung Lingpa, watch over me:
སྲིད་ཞི་མཉམ་ཉིད་དབྱིངས་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
si zhi nyanyi ying né zik shik
look upon me from the space of samsara and nirvana’s equality.
མོས་གུས་རྣལ་མ་རྒྱུད་ལ་སྐྱེས་ནས། །
mögü nalma gyü la kyené
Let natural devotion be born within my mind
རྟོགས་གྲོལ་དུས་མཉམ་ཆེན་པོར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
tok dröl dü nyam chenpor dzö chik
and realization and liberation occur simultaneously.
གྲུབ་སྲས་ཀརྨ་ཨོ་རྒྱན་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
drupsé karma orgyen khyeno
Karma Urgyen, son of siddhas, watch over me:
རིག་སྟོང་ཡེ་ཤེས་དབྱིངས་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
rik tong yeshé ying né zik shik
look upon me from the space of the wisdom of empty awareness.
དགོངས་བརྒྱུད་ལས་ཅན་བུ་ལ་འཕོ་བས། །
gong gyü lechen bula powé
Let me receive the wisdom transmission as your destined child,
རྟོགས་པའི་རྒྱལ་ས་ཟིན་པར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
tok pé gyalsa zinpar dzö chik
and thus capture the kingdom of realization.
སྐྱབས་རྗེ་དིལ་མགོ་མཁྱེན་བརྩེའི་གསུང་།

དྲིན་ཅན་རྩ་བའི་བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ། །
drinchen tsawé lama khyeno
Kind root guru, watch over me:
སྤྱི་གཙུག་བདེ་ཆེན་གནས་ནས་གཟིགས་ཤིག །
chi tsuk dechen né né zik shik
look upon me from my crown, the abode of great bliss.
རང་རིག་ཆོས་སྐུའི་རང་ཞལ་མཇལ་ནས། །
rang rik chö kü rang zhal jal né
Help me to see my true face, self-aware dharmakāya,
ཚེ་གཅིག་སངས་རྒྱས་འགྲུབ་པར་མཛོད་ཅིག །
tsé chik sangyé drupar dzö chik
and thus accomplish buddhahood in a single lifetime!

Alas!
བདག་འདྲའི་སེམས་ཅན་ལས་ངན་སྡིག་ཏོ་ཅན། །
dak dré semchen lé ngen dikto chen
I and beings like me, with negative karma and misdeeds,
ཐོག་མེད་དུས་ནས་འཁོར་བར་ཡུན་རིང་འཁྱམས། །
tokmé düné khorwar yün ring khyam
have long wandered in samsara, from time immemorial.
ད་དུང་སྡུག་བསྔལ་མཐའ་མེད་མྱོང་འགྱུར་བས། །
dadung dukngal tamé nyong gyurwé
Our suffering is constant; it knows no end,
སྐྱོ་ཤས་སྐད་ཅིག་ཙམ་ཡང་མ་སྐྱེས་པས། །
kyoshé kechik tsam yang makyé pé
yet we feel not the slightest disillusion, not even for a moment.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik

ངེས་འབྱུང་གཏིང་ནས་སྐྱེ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
ngejung ding né kyewar jin gyi lop
Bless me that renunciation may arise deep within my heart.
དལ་འབྱོར་ཐོབ་ཀྱང་མི་ཚེ་སྟོང་ཟད་མཁན། །
daljor top kyang mi tsé tong zé khen
Though I’ve obtained the freedoms and riches, I waste my time,
དོན་མེད་ཚེ་འདིར་བྱ་བས་རྟག་ཏུ་གཡེང༌། །
dön mé tsedir jawé taktu yeng
perpetually distracted by the trivial concerns of this life.
དོན་ཆེན་ཐར་པ་སྒྲུབ་ལ་ལེ་ལོས་ཁྱེར། །
dönchen tarpa drup la lelö khyer
Laziness prevents my pursuit of what is meaningful, liberation,
ནོར་བུའི་གླིང་ནས་ལག་སྟོང་ལོག་གྱུར་པས། །
norbü ling né lak tong lok gyur pé
so I must return empty-handed from this island of jewels.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །

མི་ལུས་དོན་ལྡན་འགྲུབ་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
milü dönden drupar jin gyi lop
Bless me that my human birth may yet prove significant.
མ་ཤི་ས་སྟེང་ལུས་པ་གཅིག་ཀྱང་མེད། །
ma shi sa teng lüpa chik kyang mé
Death spares no one upon this earth:
ད་ལྟ་གཅིག་རྗེས་གཉིས་མཐུད་ཕ་རོལ་འགྲོ། །
danta chik jé nyi tü paröl dro
beings depart even now, one after another.
རང་ཡང་མྱུར་བ་ཉིད་དུ་འཆི་དགོས་ཀྱང༌། །
rang yang nyurwa nyidu chi gö kyang
And though I too must pass very soon,
ཡུན་རིང་སྡོད་གྲབས་བྱེད་པའི་སྙིང་རུལ་པོ། །
yün ring dö drap chepé nying rülpo
my foolish heart still expects to endure.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །

ལོང་མེད་བློ་སྣ་ཐུང་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །

Bless me that I may curtail my impossible plans.
སྙིང་དུ་སྡུག་པའི་མཛའ་བཤེས་སོ་སོར་བྲལ། །
nying du dukpé dza shé sosor dral
Friends and family, held so dear, must go their separate ways;
སེར་སྣས་བསགས་པའི་ནོར་རྫས་གཞན་གྱིས་སྤྱོད། །
serné sakpé nordzé zhen gyi chö
my wealth, hoarded so jealously, will be enjoyed by others.
གཅེས་པའི་ལུས་ཀྱང་ཤུལ་དུ་བོར་ནས་སུ། །
chepé lü kyang shül du bor né su
Even my cherished body will be cast aside,
རྣམ་ཤེས་བར་དོ་གཏོལ་མེད་འཁོར་བར་འཁྱམས། །
nam shé bardo tol mé khorwar khyam
as my consciousness wanders aimlessly through the bardo.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །

ཅིས་ཀྱང་དགོས་མེད་རྟོགས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
chi kyang gö mé tokpar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may realize the futility of it all.
འཇིགས་པའི་མུན་པ་ནག་པོས་སྔོན་ནས་བསུ། །
jikpé münpa nakpö ngön né su
Terrifying, pitch-black darkness looms before me,
ལས་ཀྱི་རླུང་དམར་དྲག་པོས་རྒྱབ་ནས་དེད། །
lé kyi lung mar drakpö gyap né dé
while the ferocious winds of karma lash at my back.
མི་སྡུག་གཤིན་རྗེའི་ཕོ་ཉས་བརྡེག་ཅིང་བཙོག །
mi duk shinjé ponyé dek ching tsok
Yama’s gruesome minions strike and assault me—
བཟོད་དཀའ་ངན་འགྲོའི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་མྱོང་དགོས་ན། །
zöka ngendrö dukngal nyong gö na
when I’m subjected to the lower realms’ unbearable pain,
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik

ངན་སོང་གཡང་ལས་ཐར་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
ngensong yang lé tarwar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may escape the abyss of the lower realms.
རང་སྐྱོན་རི་བོ་ཙམ་ཡང་ཁོང་དུ་སྦས། །
rang kyön riwo tsam yang khong du bé
My own faults, though mountainous, I conceal within;
གཞན་སྐྱོན་ཏིལ་འབྲུ་ཙམ་ཡང་སྒྲོགས་ཅིང་སྨོད། །
zhen kyön tildru tsam yang drok ching mö
others’ flaws, though negligible, I proclaim and condemn.
ཡོན་ཏན་ཅུང་ཟད་མེད་ཀྱང་བཟང་པོར་རློམ། །
yönten chungzé mé kyang zangpor lom
I lack even the slightest qualities but consider myself great;
ཆོས་པའི་མིང་བཏགས་ཆོས་མིན་ཁོ་ནར་སྤྱོད། །
chöpé ming tak chömin khona chö
I call myself a Dharma practitioner but act only to the contrary.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །

རང་འདོད་ང་རྒྱལ་ཞི་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
rang dö ngagyal zhiwar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may quell my selfishness and pride.
གཏན་ཕུང་བདག་འཛིན་འགོང་པོ་ཁོང་དུ་བཅུག །
ten pung dakdzin gongpo khong du chuk
I keep the ruinous demon of ego-clinging hidden within,
བསམ་ཚད་ཐམས་ཅད་ཉོན་མོངས་འཕེལ་བའི་རྒྱུ། །
samtsé tamché nyönmong pelwé gyu
while all my thoughts cause the kleśas to increase,
བྱས་ཚད་ཐམས་ཅད་མི་དགེའི་འབྲས་བུ་ཅན། །
chétsé tamché migé drebu chen
and whatever I do bears the fruit of non-virtue.
ཐར་པའི་ལམ་དུ་ཕྱོགས་ཙམ་མ་ཕྱིན་པས། །
tarpé lam du chok tsam ma chinpé
Since I’ve not made the slightest progress on the path to liberation,
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik

ངར་འཛིན་རྩད་ནས་ཆོད་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
ngardzin tsené chöpar jin gyi lop
Bless me that ego-clinging may be severed at its root.
བསྟོད་སྨད་ཙམ་ལ་དགའ་དང་མི་དགའ་སྐྱེ། །
tömé tsam la ga dang miga kyé
The slightest praise or blame delights or depresses me.
ཚིག་ངན་ཙམ་ལ་བཟོད་པའི་གོ་ཆ་ཤོར། །
tsik ngen tsam la zöpé gocha shor
Harsh words alone detach the armor of my patience.
ཉམ་ཐག་མཐོང་ཡང་སྙིང་རྗེའི་སེམས་མི་སྐྱེས། །
nyamtak tong yang nyingjé sem mi kyé
Even seeing the wretched does not stir my compassion;
སྦྱིན་ཡུལ་བྱུང་དུས་སེར་སྣའི་མདུད་པས་བཅིང༌། །
jin yül jung dü serné düpé ching
when encountering the needy, I am constrained by greed.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །

སེམས་རྒྱུད་ཆོས་དང་འདྲེས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
semgyü chö dang drepar jin gyi lop
Bless me that the Dharma may suffuse my mind.
འཁོར་བ་སྙིང་པོ་མེད་ལ་སྙིང་པོར་བཟུང༌། །
khorwa nyingpo mela nyingpor zung
Although samsara is hollow, I take it to be meaningful.
ལྟོ་གོས་ཕྱིར་དུ་གཏན་འདུན་ལིང་གིས་བོར། །
togö chir du ten dün ling gi bor
For the sake of food and clothing, I forsake the lasting goal.
མཁོ་རྒུ་ཚང་ཡང་དགོས་དགོས་ཕྱི་ཕྱིར་མང༌། །
khogu tsang yang gögö chi chir mang
Though I have all that I need, I still crave even more.
མི་བདེན་སྒྱུ་མའི་ཆོས་ཀྱིས་རང་སེམས་བསླུས། །
miden gyumé chö kyi rang sem lü
My mind is beguiled by these unreal, illusory phenomena.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik

ཚེ་འདི་བློ་ཡིས་ཐོང་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
tsedi loyi tongwar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may give up the concerns of this life.
ལུས་སེམས་སྡུག་བསྔལ་ཕྲ་མོའང་མི་བཟོད་ཀྱང༌། །
lüsem duk-ngal tramo ang mizö kyang
I cannot bear the slightest pain, physical or mental,
ངན་འགྲོར་འགྲོ་ལ་མི་འཚེར་སྙིང་རྡོས་ཅན། །
ngendror drola mi tser nyingdö chen
yet my stony heart does not fear the lower realms.
རྒྱུ་འབྲས་བསླུ་མེད་མངོན་སུམ་མཐོང་བཞིན་དུ། །
gyundré lumé ngönsum tong zhindu
Though I can see that cause and effect are unfailing,
དགེ་བ་མི་འགྲུབ་སྡིག་པའི་ཡོ་ལང་འཕེལ། །
gewa mi drup dikpé yolang pel
I neglect the practice of virtue and persist in my misdeeds.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik

ལས་ལ་ཡིད་ཆེས་སྐྱེ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
lela yiché kyewar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may develop trust in the karmic process.
དགྲ་ལ་སྡང་སེམས་གཉེན་ལ་ཆགས་སེམས་སྐྱེ། །
drala dang sem nyen la chak sem kyé
With hatred for my enemies and attachment to my friends,
བླང་དོར་གནས་ལ་གཏི་མུག་མུན་ལྟར་འཐོམ། །
langdor nela timuk mün tar tom
I am lost in the dark, confused as to what to adopt and avoid.
ཆོས་བཞིན་སྤྱོད་ཚེ་བྱིངས་རྨུགས་གཉིད་དབང་ཤོར། །
chö zhin chö tsé jing muk nyiwang shor
When practicing the Dharma I succumb to dullness and sleep;
ཆོས་མིན་སྤྱོད་ཚེ་དབང་པོ་གསལ་ཅིང་གྲུང༌། །
chö min chö tsé wangpo sal ching drung
but when otherwise engaged my senses are keen and alert.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik
Guru, watch over me: swiftly look upon me with compassion!
ཉོན་མོངས་དགྲ་བོ་ཆོམ་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
nyönmong drawo chompar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may conquer the enemy, disturbing emotions.
ཕྱི་ནས་བལྟས་ན་ཡང་དག་ཆོས་པའི་གཟུགས། །
chiné tena yangdak chöpé zuk
From the outside, I may seem a genuine practitioner,
ནང་དུ་རང་སེམས་ཆོས་དང་མ་འདྲེས་པས། །
nang du rang sem chö dang madré pé
but inside, my mind has not merged with the Dharma.
སྦྲུལ་གདུག་བཞིན་དུ་ཉོན་མོངས་ཁོང་ན་སྦས། །
drül duk zhindu nyönmong khong na bé
Like a poisonous snake, I hide my afflictions within;
རྐྱེན་དང་འཕྲད་ཚེ་ཆོས་པའི་མཚང་རྟགས་སྟོན། །
kyen dang tré tsé chöpé tsang dak tön
then, when conditions are ripe, my faults are exposed.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik
Guru, watch over me: swiftly look upon me with compassion!
རང་རྒྱུད་རང་གིས་ཐུལ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
rang gyü rang gi tülwar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may tame my own mind.
རང་སྐྱོན་ངན་པ་རང་གིས་མ་རྟོགས་པས། །
rang kyön ngenpa rang gi matokpé
Since I cannot see my own rotten faults,
ཆོས་པའི་གཟུགས་བཟུང་ཆོས་མིན་སྣ་ཚོགས་སྤྱོད། །
chöpé zuk zung chömin natsok chö
I adopt a practitioner’s guise and flout the Dharma.
ཉོན་མོངས་མི་དགེའི་ལས་ལ་ཤུགས་ཀྱིས་གོམས། །
nyönmong migé lé la shuk kyi gom
Disturbing emotions and non-virtue are now so ingrained
དགེ་བློ་ཡང་ཡང་སྐྱེད་ཀྱང་ཡང་ཡང་ཆད། །
gelo yang yang kyé kyang yang yang ché
that positive intentions, though repeatedly kindled, only subside.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik
Guru, watch over me: swiftly look upon me with compassion!
རང་སྐྱོན་རང་གིས་མཐོང་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
rang kyön rang gi tongwar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may see my own shortcomings.
ཞག་རེ་སོང་བཞིན་འཆི་ལ་ཕར་ཕར་ཉེ། །
zhak ré song zhin chila par par nyé
With each day that passes, death comes ever closer;
ཉིན་རེ་ལོན་བཞིན་རང་རྒྱུད་ཕྱིར་ཕྱིར་གྱོང༌། །
nyin ré lön zhin rang gyü chir chir gyong
with each day that goes by, mind grows ever wilder.
བླ་མ་བསྟེན་བཞིན་མོས་གུས་རིམ་གྱིས་འགྲིབ། །
lama ten zhin mügo rim gyi drib
While following the guru, my devotion has gradually waned,
མཆེད་ལ་བརྩེ་གདུང་དག་སྣང་ཇེ་ཆུང་སོང༌། །
chela tsé dung daknang jé chung song
my affection and pure regard for Dharma siblings declined.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik
Guru, watch over me: swiftly look upon me with compassion!
རྨུ་རྒོད་རང་རྒྱུད་ཐུལ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
mugö rang gyü tülwar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may tame this troublesome mind.
སྐྱབས་འགྲོ་སེམས་བསྐྱེད་གསོལ་འདེབས་བྱས་ན་ཡང༌། །
kyapdro semkyé söldep chena yang
Though I take refuge, generate bodhicitta, and supplicate,
མོས་གུས་སྙིང་རྗེ་གཏིང་ནས་མ་སྐྱེས་པས། །
mögü nyingjé ting né makyépé
devotion and compassion are not deeply felt from within.
ཚིག་ཙམ་དབང་གྱུར་ཆོས་སྤྱོད་དགེ་སྦྱོར་རྣམས། །
tsik tsam wang gyur chö chö gejor nam
Dharma practice and virtuous deeds are merely routine;
བྱས་ལོ་ཙམ་ལས་རྒྱུད་ཐོག་མ་ཁེལ་བས། །
chélo tsam lé gyü tok ma khelwé
going through the motions leaves my character untouched.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik

ཅི་བྱས་ཆོས་སུ་འགྲོ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
chi ché chösu drowar jin gyi lop
Bless me that whatever I do may become the Dharma.
བདག་བདེ་འདོད་ལས་སྡུག་བསྔལ་ཐམས་ཅད་འབྱུང༌། །
dak dé dö lé dukngal tamché jung
All suffering is born from seeking happiness for oneself,
གཞན་ཕན་སེམས་ཀྱིས་སངས་རྒྱས་འགྲུབ་གསུངས་ཀྱང༌། །
zhenpen sem kyi sangyé drup sung kyang
while buddhahood, it’s taught, springs from wishing others well.
སེམས་མཆོག་བསྐྱེད་ཅིང་རང་འདོད་ཕུག་ཏུ་བཅུག །
semchok kyé ching rang dö puk tu chuk
I have formed the supreme resolve but retain my selfish aims.
གཞན་ཕན་ལྟ་ཅི་གཞན་གནོད་ཞོར་ལ་སྒྲུབ། །
zhenpen ta chi zhen nö zhorla drup
Never mind helping others; I somehow cause them harm.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik
Guru, watch over me: swiftly look upon me with compassion!
བདག་གཞན་བརྗེ་བར་ནུས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
dak zhen jéwar nüpar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may be able to exchange myself for others.
སངས་རྒྱས་དངོས་སྣང་བླ་མ་མི་རུ་བཟུང༌། །
sangyé ngö nang lama miru zung
I see the guru, a Buddha in the flesh, as a mere human being,
གདམས་ཟབ་སྟོན་པའི་བཀའ་དྲིན་ངང་གིས་བརྗེད། །
damzap tönpé kadrin ngang gi jé
and constantly forget the kindness of his profound instruction.
རང་འདོད་མ་བྱུང་ཚེ་ན་ཡི་ཆད་བསྒོམ། །
rang dö ma jung tsena yiché gom
I am disappointed whenever my expectations are not met,
མཛད་སྤྱོད་རྣམས་ལ་ཐེ་ཚོམ་ལོག་ལྟས་སྒྲིབ། །
dzé chö namla tetsom lok té drip
and beset by wrong views and mistrust of activity and conduct.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik
Guru, watch over me: swiftly look upon me with compassion!
མོས་གུས་འགྲིབ་མེད་འཕེལ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
mögü dripmé pelwar jin gyi lop
Bless me that my devotion may not diminish but increase.
རང་སེམས་སངས་རྒྱས་ཡིན་ཀྱང་ངོ་མ་ཤེས། །
rang sem sangyé yin kyang ngoma shé
Although my mind is the buddha, I fail to recognize this.
རྣམ་རྟོག་ཆོས་སྐུ་ཡིན་ཀྱང་དོན་མ་རྟོགས། །
namtok chöku yin kyang dön ma tok
Although my thoughts are dharmakāya, I do not realize it.
མ་བཅོས་གཉུག་མ་ཡིན་ཀྱང་སྐྱོང་མ་ནུས། །
machö nyugma yin kyang kyong ma nü
Although simplicity is the genuine state, I cannot sustain it.
རང་བབས་གནས་ལུགས་ཡིན་ཀྱང་ཡིད་མ་ཆེས། །
rangbap neluk yin kyang yi ma ché
Although natural repose is the way of abiding, I distrust it.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik
Guru, watch over me: swiftly look upon me with compassion!
རང་རིག་རང་སར་གྲོལ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
rangrik rang sar drölwar jin gyi lop
Bless me that self-awareness may be liberated within itself.
ཡོང་ངེས་འཆི་བ་སྙིང་ནས་དྲན་མ་ཐུབ། །
yong ngé chiwa nying né dren ma tup
Though death will surely come, I cannot take this to heart.
ཕན་ངེས་དམ་ཆོས་ཚུལ་བཞིན་སྒྲུབ་མ་ནུས། །
pen ngé damchö tsülzhin drup ma nü
Though Dharma surely helps, I cannot practice it as I should.
བདེན་ངེས་ལས་འབྲས་བླང་དོར་ཚུལ་བཞིན་མེད། །
den ngé ledré langdor tsülzhin mé
Though karmic laws are surely real, I do not act accordingly.
དགོས་ངེས་དྲན་ཤེས་མ་བརྟེན་གཡེང་བས་ཁྱེར། །
gö ngé drenshé maten yengwé khyer
Though mindfulness is surely needed, I am lost in distraction.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik
Guru, watch over me: swiftly look upon me with compassion!
ཡེངས་མེད་དྲན་པས་ཟིན་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
yengmé drenpé zinpar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may maintain undistracted mindfulness.
སྔོན་ལས་ངན་པས་སྙིགས་མའི་དུས་མཐར་སྐྱེས། །
ngön lé ngenpé nyikmé dü tar kyé
Due to past misdeeds, I was born at the dark age’s end:
སྔར་བྱས་ཐམས་ཅད་སྡུག་བསྔལ་རྒྱུ་རུ་སོང༌། །
ngar ché tamché dukngal gyuru song
all my previous actions are now the causes of suffering.
གྲོགས་ངན་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་སྡིག་པའི་གྲིབ་མས་གཡོགས། །
drok ngen nam kyi dikpé dripmé yok
Errant companions cast the shadow of their misdeeds.
དོན་མེད་གླེང་མོས་དགེ་སྦྱོར་གཡེང་བས་ཁྱེར། །
dönmé lengmö gejor yengwé khyer
Meaningless chatter draws me away from virtuous acts.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik
Guru, watch over me: swiftly look upon me with compassion!
ཆོས་ལ་སྙིང་རུས་ནུས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
chöla nyingrü nüpar jin gyi lop
Bless me with the strength of heart to practice Dharma.
དང་པོར་བསམ་རྒྱུ་ཆོས་ལས་མེད་པ་ལ། །
dangpor samgyu chölé mépa la
In the beginning, all my thoughts were of the Dharma;
ཐ་མ་གྲུབ་འབྲས་འཁོར་བ་ངན་སོང་རྒྱུ། །
tama drup dré khorwa ngensong gyu
in the end, I’ve achieved samsara and the lower realms.
ཐར་པའི་ལོ་ཏོག་མི་དགེའི་སད་ཀྱིས་བཅོམ། །
tarpé lotok migé sé kyi chom
Liberation’s crop has been ravaged by the frost of non-virtue:
གཏན་འདུན་ཉེས་པའི་རྨུ་རྒོད་བདག་འདྲ་རྣམས། །
tendün nyepé mugö dak dra nam
ill-disciplined brutes like me sabotage our ultimate aims.
བླ་མ་མཁྱེན་ནོ་ཐུགས་རྗེས་མྱུར་དུ་གཟིགས། །
lama khyeno tukjé nyurdu zik
Guru, watch over me: swiftly look upon me with compassion!
དམ་ཆོས་མཐའ་རུ་ཕྱིན་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
damchö taru chinpar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may follow the sacred Dharma to the end.
སྐྱོ་ཤས་གཏིང་ནས་སྐྱེ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
kyoshé ting né kyewar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may feel weariness from deep within my heart.
ལོང་མེད་བློ་སྣ་ཐུང་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
longmé lona tungwar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may curtail plans, as there’s no time to waste.
འཆི་བ་སྙིང་ནས་དྲན་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
chiwa nying né drenpar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may take the imminence of death to heart.
ལས་ལ་ཡིད་ཆེས་སྐྱེ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
lé la yiché kyewar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may trust the cause and effect of karma.
ལམ་ལ་བར་ཆད་མེད་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
lam la barché mépar jin gyi lop
Bless me that no obstacles may arise on my path.
སྒྲུབ་ལ་བརྩོན་འགྲུས་ནུས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
drup la tsöndrü nüpar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may be diligent in practice.
རྐྱེན་ངན་ལམ་དུ་ལོང་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
kyen ngen lam du longwar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may transform adversity into the path.
གཉེན་པོ་རང་ཚུགས་ཐུབ་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
nyenpo rang tsuk tupar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may steadfastly apply the remedies.
བཅོས་མིན་མོས་གུས་སྐྱེ་བར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
chö min mögü kyewar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may develop uncontrived devotion.
གནས་ལུགས་རང་ཞལ་མཇལ་བར་བྱིན་གིས་རློབས། །
neluk rang zhal jalwar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may see my true face, the natural state.
རང་རིག་སྙིང་དབུས་སད་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
rangrik nying ü separ jin gyi lop
Bless me that self-awareness may awaken in my heart.
འཁྲུལ་སྣང་གཞི་རྩ་ཆོད་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
trülnang zhi tsa chöpar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may cut deluded perception at its root.
ཚེ་གཅིག་སངས་རྒྱས་འགྲུབ་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
tsé chik sangyé drupar jin gyi lop
Bless me that I may attain buddhahood in this very life.
གསོལ་བ་འདེབས་སོ་བླ་མ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ། །
sölwa depso lama rinpoché
Precious guru, to you I pray;
གདུང་བས་འབོད་དོ་དྲིན་ཅན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྗེ། །
dungwé bödo drinchen chö kyi jé
with longing I call upon you, kindly lord of Dharma.
སྐལ་མེད་བདག་ལ་རེ་ས་ཁྱོད་ལས་མེད། །
kalmé dak la resa kyölé mé
I have no other hope but you, wretched as I am:
ཐུགས་ཡིད་དབྱེར་མེད་འདྲེས་པར་བྱིན་གྱིས་རློབས། །
tuk yi yermé drepar jin gyi lop
bless me that wisdom and mind may merge as one!
ཚུལ་འདི་མོས་ལྡན་དགེ་སྦྱོང་འགའ་ཞིག་གིས་སྔ་སོར་ནས་བསྐུལ་ཡང་རིམ་ལུས་སུ་གྱུར་པ། ཉེ་ཆར་རིགས་ལྡན་ཆོས་མཛད་མ་བསམ་འགྲུབ་སྒྲོན་མ་དང༌། དེ་བ་རཀྵི་ཏ་ཟུང་གིས་ནན་ཏན་བསྐུལ་ངོར་སྙིགས་དུས་བླ་མའི་གཟུགས་བརྙན་འཛིན་པ་༧བློ་གྲོས་མཐའ་ཡས་ཀྱིས་རྫོང་ཤོད་བདེ་གཤེགས་འདུས་པའི་སྒྲུབ་ནས་ཆེན་པོར་བགྱིས་པ་དགེ་ལེགས་འཕེལ།། །།
Some time ago, several devoted practitioners requested me to compose something along these lines, but I was delayed in doing so. More recently, when Samdrup Drönma, a female practitioner of noble family, and Deva Rakṣita made their entreaties, I, Lodrö Tayé, someone who merely maintains the appearance of a guru in this degenerate age, wrote this at the great practice center of Dzongshö Deshek Düpa. May virtue and goodness spread!
