An Elaborate Lamp Aspiration

Conclude with the lamp aspiration. For this, all those gathered should hold up a lamp and recite the following:

hum, lamé sangwa chok gi kyilkhor du

Hūṃ! In this mandala of the supreme Unsurpassable Secret,

nyingpo jangchup lam la zhukpa yi

now that we have set out on the path to awakening's essence,

khorwé yangsa chenpor mi tung zhing

may we never again fall into the great abyss of samsara,

chakdang chongrong nésu mikyé dang

nor take birth in the ravines of attachment and aversion!

lokta nyelwé zangkhar midrim zhing

May we never wallow in the infernal cauldrons of wrong view,

khöndzin chenzen dukpé ké mitö

and may we never hear the cry of the vicious beast, resentment,

nyönmong tsön tsé dukpé zer mipok

nor feel the pain of poisonous emotions’ striking point!

gewé shényen kadrin chewa dang

From the kind and gracious spiritual friend who is the teacher,

sok gi drelwé ché dang chamdrel dang

from our spiritual siblings, whose life-force is linked to ours,

sumpé wang gi drelwé rikma sum

and from the three types of consort, connected through the third empowerment,

kyewa di dang tsérap tamché du

may we never be separated, in this and in all our future lives!

mi drel tsé chik drokpé tingdzin gyi

Instead, through the samadhi of one-pointed accompaniment,

sachu khyépar rimgyi dröpar shok

may we pass through the ten bhūmis in succession!

namzhik tsépö lüjé dü jungné

When, at some point, we depart this life and change our body,

khorwé yangsar lenchik tung si kyang

even if we should fall once more into samsara’s abyss,

nangwé gojé zhünmar dangsel di

then, may the radiating brightness of this illuminating lamp

rikdzin drupapo yi shültsön ching

make clear the way of the vidyādhara practitioner,

küntu ö kyi sa la gyü jangné

so that, having purified the mind at the stage of universal radiance,

pema chenpö sa la lhüngyi drup

we reach spontaneous accomplishment at the great lotus stage,

khorlo tsokchen sa la shekpé tsé

and, when arriving at the level of the great accumulation wheel,

ngön gyi gyelwa nam kyi dünsü shik

we may be greeted by all the victorious buddhas of the past!

yidam lha yi gyapné sokten chik

With the yidam deities behind us, supporting our life-force,

jangchup sempa namkyi takyor chik

may the bodhisattvas remain all around,

chöpé lhamo nam kyi nadrong shik

and, as offering goddesses lead us along the way,

matsok wangmo nam kyi jékyong shik

may mother ḍākinīs and powerful īśvarīs sustain us!

changlo chen gyi sa la chinpé tsé

When finally we reach the bhūmi of Atakāvatī,

midokpa yi sa la né né kyang

a level from which there is no turning back,

dorjé trogyel khyö kyi zhel tong né

may we behold your face, O King of Vajra Wrath!

rikdzin nam dang yermé gyur né kyang

And, forever inseparable from the vidyādharas,

lamé ku sung tuk su druppar shok

may our awakened form, speech, and heart be unsurpassed!*
