Celebrating the 150th anniversary of Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa's parinirvana

On this auspicious day, we'd like to share with you two aspirations for rebirth in the great treasure revealer's pure realm, the Lotus-Covered Realm.

150 years ago today, on the first day of the fifth month according to the Tsurphu tradition, the great treasure revealer Chokgyur Lingpa appeared to pass away, as a reminder of impermanence and in order to fulfill a greater purpose elsewhere. His passing was accompanied by numerous miraculous displays, such as rainbow lights and relics. As Kyapgön Phakchok Rinpoche recounts in The Great Tertön (p.174):

“Shortly thereafter, Jamyang Khyentsé Wangpo had a vision of Chokgyur Lingpa appearing as a bodhisattva in a newly created pure realm next to Sukhāvatı. The bodhisattva was named Lotus Essence, and the pure land was the Lotus-Covered Realm. In his vision, Khyentsé Wangpo received from the bodhisattva Lotus Essence the entire cycle related to this realm, the Profound Essence of the Embodiment of the Families of the Three Kāyas (Kusum Rikdü Zaptik), including the empowerments and transmissions. Khyentsé Rinpoché later gave an account of the vision to Jamgön Kongtrül. Together, they then transmitted the teachings related to Chokgyur Lingpa’s new pure land. Anyone with a connection to the Chokling Tersar, who has faith and undamaged samaya, will definitely be reborn in the Lotus-Covered Realm.”

On this auspicious day, in celebration of these amazing events, Lhasey Lotsawa is delighted to share “The Sphere of Universal Joy – An Aspiration for Taking Rebirth in the Realm of Utmost Purity” composed by Jamgön Kongtrül Rinpoche for the Kusum Rikdü Zaptik, as well as a short version of this aspiration for rebirth in the Lotus-Covered Realm composed by Kyapgön Phakchok Rinpoche.
